An instructional designer is the person in charge of closing the gap between <\/span><b>what students need<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; in terms of skills, competences and performance &#8211; and all the <\/span><b>learning experiences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, online and offline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to underline that the job of an instructional designer does not concern solely eLearning: starting from a <\/span><b>training need analysis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> performed on the client, he has to use\u00a0 <\/span><b>training theory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>best practices<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the field to design a <\/span><b>training path<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that comprehends <\/span><b>specific content<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This could be delivered through <\/span><b>different methods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; face-to-face, digital, training on the job, informal &#8211; <\/span><b>eLearning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> representing only one of the possible means. However, it is necessary to know the basics of eLearning to integrate it in a broader training plan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SUBJECT_MATTER_EXPERT\"><\/span><b>SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The subject matter expert is the person <\/span><b>specialized<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>specific domain or topic <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">object of the training: he works with the instructional designer in order to define the <\/span><b>syllabus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with all the learning content and collaborates at <\/span><b>reviewing the lesson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prior to its finalisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He can work <\/span><b>within the company<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; and therefore be a training professional for the field &#8211; or be a <\/span><b>freelancer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who collaborates with the organization to carry on a project related to its area of specialization, which may have nothing to do with training (e.g. a foreperson expert in a certain procedure or a lawyer skilled in matters relating work safety).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"STORYBOARD_CREATOR\"><\/span><b>STORYBOARD CREATOR\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These professionals, related to the production of <\/span><b>multimedia content<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are not born with eLearning but is <\/span><b>essential <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in order to design digital training content.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The storyboard creator is in charge of <\/span><b>building the storyboard <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the lesson, namely <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <\/span><b>graphic organiser<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> consisting in a sequence of illustrations or<\/span><b> images and text notes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> useful to <\/span><b>pre-visualise<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the final result.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a <\/span><b>key-role<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since has to give a voice (and a structure) to the instructional designer\u2019s idea, preparing the <\/span><b>raw material<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that eLearning artists will work on to finalise the lesson. In some cases, the <\/span><b>subject matter expert<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could be in charge of the storyboard, so the two figures might <\/span><b>coincide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ELEARNING_ARTIST\"><\/span><b>ELEARNING ARTIST<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This role, midway between a graphic designer and a developer, is involved in eLearning content creation at two main levels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first one is at the <\/span><b>very beginning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: once the instructional designer has selected the content of the lesson &#8211; t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opics to address, exercises, tests &#8211;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they work together to define an idea of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>\u201cphygital\u201d environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the lesson, namely characters, setting and overall style.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second one is the last step of the creation process, when the <\/span><b>storyboard <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is turned <\/span><b>into actual multimedia content<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: starting from the indications received, eLearning artists <\/span><b>bring lessons to life<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In case of particularly complex projects, different eLearning artists might be needed in order to address specific aspects, like graphic design, 3D modelling and development. <\/span>These professionals are also in charge of ensuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quiddis.com\/en\/what-is-the-scorm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SCORM compliance<\/a> for all the content, ensuring that all the required information is inserted before finalising the lesson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"QUALITY_ASSURANCE_MANAGER\"><\/span><b>QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once again, quality assurance managers are not professionals solely related to eLearning, but acquires a fundamental role in this field. This is the person in charge of assuring the best <\/span><b>quality for learning content<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which has been defined by storyboard and <\/span><b>style guide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Acceptance Test Procedures <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(ATP) specify all the steps to follow to ensure the courseware quality: through <\/span><b>checklists<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the correct execution of each one of those steps is monitored both by the quality assurance manager and the client. At the end, all <\/span><b>trouble tickets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, namely assistance requests that can be opened during the review process, need to be <\/span><b>closed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before <\/span><b>finalising the courseware<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and exporting it into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quiddis.com\/en\/lcms-lms-difference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LMS<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ELEARNING_PROFESSIONALS_SOFT_SKILLS\"><\/span><b>ELEARNING PROFESSIONALS&#8217; SOFT SKILLS\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting to know about all the new professionals needed in the creation process of eLearning content, it appears very clear how <\/span><b>teamwork <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>project management<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are fundamental <\/span><b>skills <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to work in this field. No matter how involved they are, each one need to be <\/span><b>well organized<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>respect all the set deadlines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in order for the process to run smoothly. The <\/span><b>ability to communicate clearly <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with colleagues is also a fundamental aspect, since so many people are involved and they all need to <\/span><b>be on the same page<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
