How to set up your online gym with an LMS platform

We have already talked about how LMSs are the key-tool to set up a Corporate Academy, namely the platform to manage blended training within companies: in this article we will talk about how to use an LMS in an unexpected way, as the main infrastructure to set up your online gym.

If LMSs are the base of digital training, it is important to underline that this training does not need to be related to a specific instructional topic or area of use. The structure of an LMS platform, in fact, allows to manage students, courses and training materials of any kind, especially when video lessons systems are also integrated: thank to them it is possible to organize training even when physical aspects are strongly involved, such as in distance rehabilitation or in sports, always with remote tracking and users’ history.

Sport has always been an integral part of many people’s lives, but with the spread of smart working and the deep changes in people’s habits it slowly disconnected from the idea of a specific place and time, becoming more and more flexible to adapt to the new needs. This is why we have seen a development of “on demand” courses, which can be followed from home autonomously when it is more convenient, or live remote lessons, to allow anyone to join without wasting time for transfers or to be followed by personal trainers who live quite far.

However, this phenomenon has developed way before the forced closure of gyms and sport centers, but it also has some risks. The main negative aspect of a similar approach, in fact, is related to the lack of control on users’ path: who trains, when, how frequently, and with which results. This is mainly due to the lack of progress tracking, especially when training materials, such as exercise plans and videos, are spread using streaming platforms and social media networks, without a certified trainer behind it.

Therefore, it becomes essential for trainers to take charge of the situation, becoming creators and spreaders of content they can control.

As we have said, the open structure of LMS platforms allow their use as a base for any type of training, even for remote exercising programs. An LMS allows trainers to manage courses, with different classes or single users, share materials and organize live video lessons, which could be recorded for future uses. In addition to that, a similar system can be used simultaneously for many purposes, such as nutritional programs: within their course, in fact, users can find exercise plans, but also their diet plan and suggestions. Finally, using the LMS platform is also possible to organize periodical tests for progress tracking or assign feedback questionnaires, to collect users’ opinions about the specific online course, the trainer or the gym in general.

On a higher level, using an LMS platform, who is in charge of managing an online gym can have an insight into the sales trend, thanks to the integration of e-commerce services, communicate with trainers and members and organize the courses calendar without the need of using many different tools.

Using an LMS platform, in fact, has the advantage of centralizing the process, avoiding the loss of messages or links to video lessons and making it easier to create valuable relationships, the lack of which is the main risk of this type of training, like in distance training in general.

We have seen how LMSs can be the base structure of any training center which needs to manage classes and lessons and share materials, both within companies and in sport.
